Infection Defined
Invasion by and multiplication of microorganisms in body tissue resulting in disease. Infection is not synonymous with infectious disease; the result may be inapparent (see Inapparent infection) or manifest (see Infectious disease). The presence of living infectious agents on exterior surfaces of the body, or on articles of apparel or soiled articles, is not infection, but represents contamination of such surfaces and articles. The upcoming flu season could be the start of something big. Not "big" as in the severity of flu. By all accounts, this year's influenza vaccine should be more successful than last year's only partly effective one. And it's too early to tell whether the flu this season will be especially widespread.

Washington, Oct 10 : After studying a bacterium called Photorhabdus asymbiotica, scientists at Universities of Bath and Exeter have developed a new method, called Rapid Virulence Annotation (RVA), for checking toxic genes in disease-causing bacteria which infect insects and humans.
